Europe's Great Harvest Destinations

Bordeaux (France)

Tuscany (Italy)

Rioja (Spain)

Douro Valley (Portugal)

Europe's four great harvest destinations

Bordeaux, France - Harvest: September – October

The world's most famous wine region and, during harvest, one of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. The grand châteaux of the Médoc, the limestone cliffs of Saint-Émilion, and the intimate right-bank estates of Pomerol and Fronsac open their doors to visitors in a way that is only fully available during harvest. HTT arranges private château visits, barrel-tasting experiences and stays in the finest maisons de vin in the region.

Tuscany, Italy - Harvest: Late September – October

Tuscany during the vendemmia is simply one of the great travel experiences in the world — and one that resonates deeply with the Thai appreciation for beauty, food and warm hospitality. The Chianti Classico zone between Florence and Siena is the heartland, but the coastal estates of Bolgheri and the ancient vineyards of Montalcino each offer something distinct. HTT combines Tuscan harvest visits with stays in converted farmhouses, medieval hilltop villages and Florence's finest hotels.

Rioja, Spain - Harvest: September – October

La Rioja is Spain's most prestigious wine appellation and one of Europe's most welcoming wine regions for visitors. The harvest festival in Logroño — held each September — is one of Spain's great annual celebrations, combining the grape harvest with music, street food and communal joy. The modern architecture of the Marqués de Riscal winery (designed by Frank Gehry) and the medieval bodegas of the region make it visually extraordinary.

The Highlights of Spain & Portugal tour (Globus, from USD $2,584) passes through the Rioja region and pairs well with a wine extension.

Douro Valley, Portugal - Harvest: Late September – October

The Douro Valley is UNESCO-listed and, in autumn, indescribably beautiful — steep terraced vineyards in shades of amber, red and gold plunging down to the river far below. This is the birthplace of Port wine, and the quintas along the valley offer some of the most intimate and authentic winery experiences in Europe. HTT combines Douro harvest visits with stays in renovated quintas, river cruises and connections to Porto.
